This feed back is really encouraging, especially that from Mary Berrisford because she seems genuinly enthusiastic and excited about using it as a teaching tool. it is even more complimenting because we dont know her and have no previous connections with her so it's not just her being nice to us!

We have received some feedback about our magazine already, Jenny Graham said "MedieMe looks great. Works really well with the colour, etc. Mega achievement."

More interestingly, in my opinion, however, was the feedback we received from Mary Berrisford at Islington who said "We've just put the underground map on the wall and are fighting about who is on the coolest line (that's the teachers not the students by the way!) Initial reaction is that we can't wait to use it in the classroom- could be a few more bigger images in there.. We'll use it with students next week (weds) and email you some more feedback"

This is great, because she specifically mentioned the piece i worked on, and even though she said the teachers cared about it more than the students, it has caused the response i was hoping for and clearly was worth doing.

Cash Monies!

To make this project work, and get 500 full colour 12 page newspapers it was going to cost us £500 and, obviously, we don't have that kind of money kicking around so we had to get it another way. We decided the best way to raise the money we needed was to sell advertising space in the magazine. We asked several Universities if they wanted to put an advert in the paper, as it would be a good place to advertise given that it would be distributed to students. We also asked the Junction because we know them and have worked with them before, and Simon had some left-over cash, and could use the advertising.

Our total outgoings were £511.40:

500 newspapers - £500
P&P - £11.40

Our total income came to about £655 due to adverts and sales.

The Junction gave us £350 for advertising space
Lincoln University gave us £100 for advertising space
OCR gave us £100 for advertising space

This alone came to £550 so we were already £50 in profit. Score!

Gurnsey Grammar School bought 20 copies for £10
Reigate School bought 120 copies for £60
Islington bought 40 copies for £20
Netherhall bought 30 copies for £15

This is about £1o5 so we are now £155 ahead!

We kept about 50 so we could have one each, moderaters and stuff needed them etc.

We still have 260 copies to sell, and Jenny is advertising it on OCR teachers week this week so we should be able to make some more cash!

With all of this information taken into account, we have already made £115 profit and still have 240 papers to sell, i am very confident that we will sell these copies with in the next week. 240 copies will be a further £120 making our total profit about £220 once postage has been taken off.

I am very impressed with myself and Alex for securing the adverts and making so much money on this project. This was the first time we have ever done anything like this and it has gone very successfully. At the start we were told that the printing was going to cost £500 and that we had to find a way of paying for it ALL our selves. we thought this was going to be hugely difficult but it has turned out really well.

Our newspaper was going to cost money to print and make, we had to look at how much it was and see if we could rase the money so we can pay for the newspaper.

Outgoing Costs

We didn't have £500 to spare, so we looked for advertising, using links we already knew, we came up with enough money to pay for the newspaper

Advert Junction - £350

Advert Lincoln - £100

Advert OCR - £ 100

Total Advertising income - £550

This is how many copies we have currently sold, we still have to sell 240 copies, but people keep contacting us asking for copies and it is being advertised on ORC's teachers list so I'm sure the remaining copies will sell soon.

This feedback is showing that the teaches from Islington really like the tube map in the middle of the magazine, and think it will be an interesting piece to use in the classroom. They think there should have been more bigger images for them to use maybe but i think this is positive feedback.

Even though the feedback was small, it's positive none the less, saying its a mega achievement, she must of liked it.

This feedback is alot more specific as it addresses everything they think is good and bad about the newspaper, it's alot more useful information then some of the previous feedback. I'm not sure what they mean about tv licencing as I think the article clearly states when you do and don't need one, unless this was cut from the revised article.

How well does it meet your original intentions?

Our Original intentions were to produce a revision guide by media students, for media students in a style that would be more accessible by media students than a big old textbook. We definitely achieved this. How ever, the validity of some articles is questionable. I feel that considering this was our first print product we have ever produced and the first piece of revision material we have tried to collate, we have produced a strong product.

How does it look?

I am very pleased and impressed with the look and style of the product, the layout is conventional and easily readable whilst the colours give it a bit of an edge and make it more interesting. We were briefed to use the colour to make the paper more interesting; whilst to an extent we have done this, I don’t think we have made the most of it. For example we could have coloured quotes instead of just making them a larger font and the header/footer info could have been more stand out.

How pleased are you with your contributions?

I have never been a strong student when it comes to writing, I find it extremely difficult to get what I want to say onto the page. Because of this, I have found this project, over any other to be the most difficult. I found it very frustrating when I had almost finished my article, to be told it wasn’t right for the paper. However I didn’t take it to heart, I took my article and re-worked it, only for it to be turned away a second time. I then came up with a third idea, good enough to make the cut. Only to find there wasn’t enough room for it to be put clearly in the paper. I feel I put in a strong contribution, writing my own article, helping secure adverts and producing a flat plan. I would have liked to of had my contribution recogised more than it was, but that’s just how it goes, you don’t always get recognition, things still have to be done regardless. I am happy with the amount contribution I put into this project.

How effectively do you think you worked in your role and others in theirs?

At the start of this project I was quite apprehensive about working in a large group because, in previous large group projects there has been a lot of arguing and people taking other peoples roles etc. However I think over all in this project, everyone stuck to their roles, and we all worked together pretty well. As far as my contribution goes, I was originally pretty apprehensive about being a team leader because of my lack of confidence in written tasks. I soon got to grips with the idea and realised there wasn’t a huge amount of leadership role to do anyway. As well as my tasks I also helped Alex with some of his tasks when he needed it. Tasks such as article planning and securing adverts.

What could be learnt from this experience?

From the experience of this project I have learnt a lot about print products in general, it was a good chance to gain a wider base to our media knowledge (we have previously only worked on digital media projects). More specifically we learnt that when we all concentrate and have set targets as we go we are able to work well as a team.

What has been learnt from previous experience?

Right from the start of the project we were drawing upon previous project experiences, like when assigning roles. We knew some students took the power of being in charge to their heads and were controlling and some students couldn’t work with other because they distracted each other to easily. This knowledge was vital to making the project work.

How Does it meet your original intentions?

I think this newspaper meets our original intentions because it looks like a newspaper, which can be educational which is exactly what we were intending, it helps people with their Media A2 exam, giving them examples and ways to help people pass the exam which has a fun and meaningful twist to the work.

How does it look?

The newspaper looks like a newspaper, with bright colours and eye-catching, most of the text is very clear, except for the word search which is blurry. But other then that i think it looks colourful and very professional.

How pleased are you with your contribution?

I'm quite pleased with my contribution, I wrote an article with Tara, about Online Streaming, so like watching TV online like iplayer ect, I did most of the research and Tara helped me write the article. I also helped with the layout, helping choose colours and format.

How effectively did you work in your role?

I worked within my role quite effectively, as i stuck to my job quite well and got the job done, I was one of the writers so i had to research and write an article, to help for the newspaper, i stuck to this quite well as i did loads of research done with time to spare and totally completed my article way before the deadline was due.

What could be learned from this experience?

I have learned that working to a deadline is crucial, as for this newspaper, if we didn't finish our article in time we will not be able to put it into the final newspaper, and if we are a few articles short we would not be able to make and newspaper therefor we would fail this project. Also if i've learned about the process of a newspaper, so how it starts out with articles to how it's been printed.

What has been learned from previous experiences?

Similar things from this experiance, it has helped me keep to deadlines, aswell as learning several different experiances which has helped e gain knowledge about that specific topic.
